TAYLORS Hill residents will get their own play space after the Federal Government announced a $100,000 funding commitment as part of its Accessible Communities initiative.
The accessible play space will form part of the Taylors Hill Youth and Community Centre and Recreation Reserve.
Melton Shire mayor Justin Mammarella said the council was committed to providing accessible and inclusive facilities for residents.
“The funding will enable the council to construct an accessible playground at the site that will cater to children of all abilities, further enhancing the use of the reserve for the local community,” Cr Mammarella said.
He said the reserve was well underway with excavation for the ovals nearly complete and the concrete slab poured.
The centre will provide space for programs for young people such as self-development groups including young women’s groups, young men’s programs, life-skills programs, assertiveness courses and a base for larger scale events.
There will also be a cricket and football oval and other infrastructure including sports lighting, landscaping, paths and a car park.
The council has allocated $7.4 million in the current budget for the project. The facility is planned to be completed by end of the year.
