BRIMBANK Council will officially open another reserve this Saturday with a community barbecue and celebration.
The first stage of the Tom O’Brien Reserve redevelopment, which cost about $300,000, includes a new playground, picnic area, pathways and landscaping.
Brimbank administrator Meredith Sussex said the redevelopment was part of the council’s accelerated implementation of the Creating Better Parks Policy and Plan.
“The community will love what has been done so far to transform this reserve into an active and enjoyable community space with facilities that people of all ages will appreciate,” Ms Sussex said.
“But the transformation doesn’t stop here. There are more works planned in the future for this reserve, including a circuit pathway and the reserve will also be accessible via the proposed Sunshine-Footscray bicycle trail.”
The council has allocated $25,000 in 2011/12 to design the important link which will connect Sunshine Station, via Tom O’Brien Reserve, with the Maribyrnong City Council cycling network.
“The council’s intention is to ensure the community has great places to gather and socialise, which are also accessible. These places are an important element of creating neighbourhoods that are attractive, safe and sustainable, which foster connected and healthy communities.”
