BRIMBANK Council will be able to continue to encourage respect within the community, after receiving a grant under the Victorian Government’s Promoting Harmony initiative.
The council will continue with the valued Interfaith Network Project in partnership with Maribyrnong City Council, after gaining a further $13,500.
The grant will support the Brimbank Maribyrnong Interfaith Network with a range of activities over this year including encouraging participation from a diverse range of local faith communities, engaging with a broad range of members within faith communities with a particular focus on young people and women, places of worship tours, multicultural and multifaith forums, multifaith Ramdan Iftar Dinner and online information resources on local interfaith events.
The network was established in 2009 with State Government funding and strives to create a harmonious community that will accept the diverse views and religions of its residents.
Since its inception two years ago, it has bought together leaders of various faiths and has organised interfaith activities to promote multiculturalism.
A Brimbank Council spokesperson said through its Social Justice Charter the council is committed to taking action in partnership with the community to strive for social justice and address the social, economic, environmental and cultural determinates that cause disadvantage in the community.
