DETECTIVES from Brimbank’s Drug Squad are investigating a drug lab uncovered by firefighters in Deer Park this month.
Firefighters from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade were called to a home on Wellman Parade shortly after 5pm on 5 August, after neighbours reported seeing smoke rising from the building.
The fire had been started in the kitchen when a pot of food left unattended on the stove caught fire.
While fighting the blaze, fire-fighters stumbled upon a sophisticated hydroponic cannabis lab extending through three rooms at the back of the house.
Police were called to the scene, where officers removed almost 100 cannabis plants.
Powercor representatives also attended to ensure the scene was safe. Detectives are investigation and expect to make an early arrest.
