YOUNG Campbell Bonello is a star in the making.
The Taylors Lakes resident is at home on stage, and at only 11 is already a dab hand at performing in front of large audiences.
And that is exactly what he has been doing for the past week.
The Overnewton Anglican College student has been playing the role of Lefou in the Williamstown Musical Theatre Company’s production of the classic fairytale, Beauty and the Beast.
According to Campbell, he has taken on the role of Gaston’s goofy side-kick, with much gusto and even enjoyed a solo singing performance in front of a sold out audience.
“I don’t get nervous at all,” the talented performer said.
“I’m so happy when I’m on stage.”
Not only can the youngster act, but he also sings and dances.
Proud mum Karen recalled the hours he would spend as a toddler entertaining the family.
“He’s been singing around the house since he was young,” she laughed.
So revered are his talents throughout the school community, that he recently came first in an Overnewton talent contest, that judged students from Year 5 to 12 on their singing, dancing and acting abilities.
Both Campbell and his mother remember the cheering from the crowd, when he performed, Don’t Stop Believing.
“I was very happy that I’d won.
“I couldn’t believe it.”
