THE push for a rugby team in Brimbank has gathered momentum with a steering committee formed last month.
The creation of a rugby union club in the city may be a reality soon enough with Reverend Penaia Te’o working in conjunction with Brimbank Council.
“The creation of a Rugby Union Club in the City of Brimbank is one of the most exciting pieces of news to rugby union fans in Brimbank City Council,” Rev Te’o said.
“There is no ‘if’ it happens, it will happen.
“We’re very keen to get a rugby team up and running.”
Rev Te’o said it was more than likely that a team would be established by the beginning of 2012 and said he hoped the rugby team would include a cross-section of the community, including residents from a variety of cultures.
He said for the team to be successful and have a large following, there needed to be strong representation from Brimbank residents.
The club will have a site at Cairnlea Park on Furlong Rd.
Anyone interested in being part of the steering committee can attend a meeting on Monday 12 September, from 7pm at the Uniting Church, Withers St, Sunshine.
