Youth service’s new home

MELTON Shire Council and Djerriwarrh Health Services last week relaunched the Backdoor Program operating at the council’s youth services centre.
The Backdoor Program is a youth-focussed health program, which has been running successfully in the Melton Shire community for more than 15 years.
The program recently moved to the council’s youth services centre following consultation with young people, schools and service providers.
Melton Shire mayor Justin Mammarella welcomed the move to the centre.
“Melton Shire Council is committed to improving health and wellbeing for our diverse community and we are very supportive of this program, which aims to empower young people to make their health a priority,” Cr Mammarella said.
He said the move meant young people could now access health care, including mental health services, in a youth-friendly setting.
The program aims to facilitate access to medical care for young people, with a core team comprising of a youth friendly doctor, a community health nurse and a counsellor.
