GET ready Brimbank residents … something big is coming.
Global Action Sports has announced that the supercross series, Monster Energy Super X, will hold the opening round of this year’s series at the Melbourne Knights Stadium on Saturday October 22.
This will be the first time the series has held an event in Brimbank.
Global Action Sports managing director Michael Porra said he was excited to finally secure a venue in Melbourne after four years of negotiations with a number of venues.
“We have wanted to bring Super X to Melbourne ever since its inception in 2008 and I am so pleased we have finally secured a location for all of our fans there,” Porra said.
“Victoria has a huge fan base for all dirt-bike sports and of course sport in general so it’s going to be the perfect place to kick off this year’s series.
“We have been working incredibly hard on this year’s championship and we are looking forward to once again delivering a world-class series to Australian supercross fans with exhilarating formats, international-standard supercross tracks and high quality television coverage, which will be replayed one week after every round.
Porra said the Melbourne Knights Stadium would be an excellent venue.
“Melbourne Knights stadium is an intimate venue with fans right on top of the action so the atmosphere will be electric. However with a capacity of just under 9,000, I would encourage fans to get in early when tickets go on sale as we expect the event to sell out pretty quickly,” he said.
Monster Energy Super X is expected to inject almost $1.5 million into the area by attracting fans from all over Victoria as well as Super X personnel, teams, riders, families, sponsors and manufacturers.
The Melbourne round will feature an exciting and unique Super X final format as well as exhibition races for fans at the track and a Monster Energy FMX demo with some of Australia’s best riders performing some of the biggest freestyle tricks in the world.
Tickets are on sale from Sunday August 14. Visit www.superx.com.au for all ticketing information and outlets.
