SUNSHINE will need to produce some serious bowling with the new ball on Saturday if it is to prevent Preston from claiming its second win in round 11 of Victorian Sub-District cricket.
Preston dismissed Sunshine for 130 on Saturday, with more than half of Sunshine’s runs coming from the bat of Jonathon Blake, who has hit some fine form.
Blake top-scored with 75 not out, following his efforts in the previous week’s match against Brunswick, in which he notched up 44 and 58 not out.
Brendan Barry was Sunshine’s major antagonist, finishing up with bowling figures of 5/38.
Preston will resume at 2/49, and if victorious will relegate Sunshine to second-last on the ladder.
Williamstown players will have welcomed the news that works at Burbank Oval are due to be completed by mid-April. While they won’t get to play on it this season, it will at least give them something to look forward to.
It’s been a long season for Williamstown, which has not played a home game this season, and has only three wins to its name.
Last year’s grand finalists will have another tough challenge this Saturday, chasing Kew’s 206.
James Craigie was lethal and economical with the ball, taking 4/27.
Melton posted a healthy total of 247 against Werribee, with opener Mick Allen making 65, and first drop Anthony Gale scoring 58.
Matthew Kinross bowled superbly for Werribee to take 5/63.
Yarraville bowled Brunswick out for 193 and will resume on Saturday on 1/5.
Alex Hewet has bowled consistently well for Yarraville this season, and Saturday was no different, taking four wickets. Yarraville needs the win to come off last place.
Altona finished play on Saturday at 9/166 against Ivanhoe. This is an important game for both sides in their quest for finals. Altona is sitting fourth, but is just three points ahead of sixth-placed Ivanhoe.
