CLEAN Up Australia Day is back bigger and better than ever in 2012 and the call is out for residents to get on board and help tidy one of Hobsons Bay’s most popular parks.
Hobsons Bay Mayor Tony Briffa urged the community to help clean up Truganina Park on Sunday 4 March.
“Truganina Park is one of the main litter hotspots in the municipality,” he said.
“Aside from the visual impact, rubbish can kill our precious local land-based wildlife. As the site borders Laverton Creek, much of the rubbish ends up in the bay where it often kills our marine animals,” Cr Briffa said.
Clean Up Australia’s Chairman and Founder Ian Kiernan AO is confident last year’s 16,464 tonnes of rubbish collected from across Australia will be topped in 2012.
“We’re urging all Australians to take notice of clean up hotspots in their local area,” he said.
To join Hobsons Bay’s official Clean Up site at Truganina Park, come down to the park in Andrew Park Dr, Altona Meadows between 10am and 1pm.
