TRADIES are flocking to Brimbank according to a recent survey.
The national survey of 1000 people revealed the municipality is a haven for tradespeople, particularly in the north west region.
Figures revealed Keilor Downs has the second highest number of tilers in Melbourne, while Sydenham is home to the third highest number of tilers and the fourth largest concentration of carpenters.
It seems it’s a match made in heaven with 16 per cent of Brimbank residents who admitting to botching up DIY home renovation jobs.
The survey also exposed the awkward and sometimes embarrassing mishaps that many residents suffer with the most common being locked out of the house and blocking the toilet.
Local chippie Mick Pete is just one tradie reaping the rewards of working and living in the area.
The Burnside Heights resident has been in the building game for more than a decade and spends most of his time working on new developments and renovations across Melbourne’s West.
Mr Pete, who began his apprenticeship as a teenager working under his father, now has a crew of six men and hopes the building boom continues.
“I didn’t ever think it (the company) would get this big,” Mr Pete said.
“It’s hard work but you reap
the rewards.”
The father of two said most of his work was in Brimbank, Hobsons Bay and Melton Shire.
The survey was conducted by the Yellow Pages.
