A CHANCE meeting with a friend changed Olympia Panagiotopoulos’ life.
Caught up in her own day-to-day life, the Sunshine resident glimpsed her friend walking through the shops and only wanted to stop for a quick chat.
However, a few minutes into the conversation, she realised the person standing in front of her was reaching out and needed someone to talk to, or just simply listen.
The mother of two remembers walking away and thinking, “how many other people don’t have anyone to talk to” and “what can I do about it?”.
Since that day, she has spent years trying to help people.
A member of Brimbank’s leadership development program last year, Ms Panagiotopoulos will next month host a high tea for women looking for inspiration, hope and, above all, support.
Tea with Sofia will offer women from all different walks of life an opportunity to gather in a comfortable and safe environment and simply talk about their lives.
“I’m passionate about personal development, leading a great life, but I believe everyone is responsible for their own life,” she said.
“I’ve always wanted to start something where people could come together and let down their barriers, a place where there is love, gratitude and forgiveness.
“I love the ritual of tea and thought wouldn’t it be wonderful if women could come together over tea.
“I’m a big believer in the need to cultivate good qualities within us. I really believe whatever you put out is what you get back in return.”
The avid writer is also in the midst of completing a novel titled, Fig Leaves and Philosophies.
The book explores the relationship between food and life, particularly within the Greek culture.
