Roos on top

SUNSHINE posted its second win in succession with a 64-point drubbing of the struggling St Albans in Round 2 of the WRFL on Saturday.
But the Kangaroos paid a price with Joseph Hedditch being sidelined halfway through the match and likely to miss several weeks with injury.
He kicked four goals in the first quarter to set up Sunshine’s 20-point lead at quarter time, and the Roos continued the momentum in the second quarter to be 52 points up at the main break.
“We had a few injuries and had no bench so we dropped off in the second half, but we still won all four quarters so we were pretty happy overall with the day,” Sunshine coach Brett Jacobs said.
Danny Jacobs was among Sunshine’s best players while Macauley Goring with four goals was a focal point when Hedditch was forced off the ground. Tom Millar and Jacob Koroneos worked well in the ruck, while Paul Sheehan was the most consistent performer over the four quarters.
St Albans sits second bottom with two significant losses and at this stage looks like it might struggle to make the five.
Sunshine will face its biggest test when it faces the rampaging Spotswood this Saturday.
“We feel we’re in a better position than what we were last year to hopefully challenge them,” Jacobs said.
“They’re obviously a class outfit. We’re under no illusions as to how good they are and how well they’re going. It’s going to be a really difficult task this week and we’re excited by the challenge.
“If we can break even with them in the midfield, that’s a big start. Their midfield is outstanding, and they’ve got quality ruckman as well. That’s just one of many areas we need to be switched on about.”
St Albans will take on Port Melbourne at home.
