Council considers kinder cubby

BRIMBANK Council will consider making improvements to a kindergarten cubby house being used by trespassers, despite parents’ plea to solve the problem by installing higher and more secure fencing.
Star last week reported that human faeces and used condoms have been found in the council run cubby house located at Albion Kindergarten.
Parents and pre-schoolers were devastated last week when they received notification from BPA Childrens Services that the cubby house would be removed, ignoring parents’ calls to improve fencing around the facility.
Last week parents told Star that they had become so frustrated with a lack of response from BPA Children’s Services and Brimbank Council that they pulled their children out of the kindergarten and placed them in a nearby facility with higher fencing.
Now the council has decided to look at other solutions which may lead to the retention of the cubby house.
Brimbank Council general manager of community and wellbeing Kelly Grigsby said the cubby house is currently not compliant with children’s service regulations.
“Council is in discussion with BPA Childrens Services that provides the kindergarten programs about possible solutions,” Ms Grigsby said.
She said the kindergarten committee will not be required to fund any of the modifications and the council is not considering installing CCTV.
