MELTON City Council vowed to take a stand against unregistered off-road and trial motorbike riders at last week’s council meeting.
Councillor Broden Borg tabled a notice of motion calling for a report on possible infringements for reckless drivers that cause damage to public reserves, create noise pollution and endanger park users.
Cr Borg called for an amendment to local laws which would give the council the authority to impose infringement notices on motorbike riders who illegally use council-owned land such as parks and public reserves.
The motion also called for an advocacy campaign to the State Government to deploy a Victoria Police Special Solo Unit as a targeted enforcement initiative on the area’s roads and parks.
Presently the council’s local laws do not allow, without council authorisation, the riding of recreational vehicles and motorcycles within council reserves.
