DONNA Prince almost mixed up the organisation of her bridesmaids with the auditions for Sunshine Community Theatre’s latest play.
Luckily the director and newlywed got the roles right over a busy two months in which she and co-director David Prince wed.
“Planning a wedding and planning a show at the same time, it was crazy,” Donna said.
But there was no place the keen thespian would rather be, with her and David even making their vows in the theatre in which they met.
Co-directing a play seems the perfect way to start a marriage.
“We’re on the same brainwave for a lot of things which is really good,
Donna said.
“It’s been quite relaxed. We don’t function as one unit all the time, but it’s really handy living in the same place as your co-director. It’s easier to get all the little details done.”
The play, There’s More to Life Than Money and Sex, is an Australian comedy about a lawyer who wants to embezzle the money of a dead woman’s estate.
Donna said the cast was made up of “fantastic actors”, who played their roles with perfect comedic timing, often having the crew in stitches during rehearsals.
“It’s a real comedy bordering on farce,” she said.
“It’s not exactly Carry On, but at times it’s not far off that. Nearly every line in the play is a joke.”
Donna encouraged everyone to come along to the play, but wouldn’t reveal what the missing ingredient behind the title was.
“You’ll just have to come and find out.”
There’s More to Life Than Money and Sex will run from 7.30pm each weekend this month from Friday 12 October at Dempster Park Hall, 82 Phoenix St, Sunshine North.
