FOR Sam Wills, riding his bike to work has become a healthy habit.
The 34-year-old physiotherapist rides his bike to work at the Sunshine Hospital three times a week, and will continue the habit when he takes part in Ride2Work day later this month.
The former member of Bicycle Victoria hopped on his bike four years ago, and has been riding to work ever since.
“It’s for my fitness and we only have one car so it’s quick to get to work,” Mr Wills said.
“It’s definitely enjoyable and its getting more enjoyable as the weather gets better.”
Mr Wills said cycling is a healthy alternative to driving and makes a positive contribution to the environment by reducing air pollution.
“It’s great for your fitness and a good way to reduce your carbon footprint,” he said.
“It’s great to be able to do something that is good for the environment.”
Mr Wills said Ride2Work day was an opportunity to encourage co-workers to leave their car at home, jump on a bike and ride to work instead.
“It’s good to get a lot of people riding at the same time to raise awareness of cyclists and for people to actually use the bike paths we have in Brimbank,” Mr Wills said.
“Sometimes people won’t think about riding to work but if they are encouraged to ride on a specific day, and they see it is enjoyable and a good way to get to work, people might take it up.”
Ride to Work Day is on Wednesday 17 October.
