PETER Lester is rounding up happy snappers to take part in a worldwide photography event held in Caroline Springs this weekend.
The 46-year-old is hosting the suburb’s first Photo Walk event which brings together amateur and professional photographers and encourages them to take photos as they walk around town.
The Caroline Springs resident has been involved in community groups across Melbourne and runs a Photo Challenge each month where budding photographers can meet up, share their ideas and improve their photography skills.
Peter decided to merge his interest in photography with his love for working with the community by bringing the worldwide Photo Walk event to Melbourne’s west.
“I saw this as a good opportunity for residents in Caroline Springs to get involved in some artwork,” Peter said.
When Peter first approached the organisers of the worldwide Photo Walk last month, his idea to run an event in Caroline Springs was rejected.
“I had to convince them that Melbourne is a pretty big place and that the west of Melbourne is in need of activities,” Peter said.
“I was pushing to run something for the community in the West and get people involved in something together through art.”
His persistence paid off and Peter was able to organise a Photo Walk in Caroline Springs for budding and experienced photographers living in the area.
Peter said he was overwhelmed with the amount of support he received from local businesses in the area who had donated various prizes to be won on the day.
Anyone with a camera is invited to take part in the free event which will start at the Town Centre on Lake St on Saturday 13 October at 8am.
