POLICE are investigating the circumstances of a two car collision that claimed the life of a father and daughter in Balliang East last Tuesday.
Investigators believe a Holden Commodore sedan was heading north along the Bacchus Marsh-Geelong Rd around 11.50am on Tuesday 2 October, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The Commodore collided with a south bound 4WD which was towing a boat.
The driver of the 4WD, a 54-year-old man and a rear passenger, his 14-year-old daughter died from impact before the vehicle burst into flames at the scene.
Another passenger from the 4WD, a woman in her 50s believed to be the man’s wife, was assisted from the vehicle by passers-by and taken to Geelong hospital.
The occupants of the Commodore, a man and a woman also believed to be in their 50s, are assisting police with their inquiries.
Sergeant John Cody from the Moorabool Highway Patrol said numerous police and emergency services attended the scene.
“It’s a tragedy and it’s what we’re out there trying to prevent, it’s just a horrible thing for everybody involved, emergency services and families,” Sergeant Cody said.
Police will prepare a report for the Coroner.
On the same day the sole occupant of a B-Double truck driver died when the Australia Post vehicle he was driving ran off the freeway, near Violet Town at around 4.30am.
Last Monday a woman was also killed in a collision 30km north of Bendigo.
Police said the car the woman was driving crossed onto the wrong side of the road and crashed with an oncoming car.
Meanwhile a woman is fighting for her life in hospital after an accident in Kew last Monday night which killed a 22-year-old-man.
Police are appealing for drivers to take more care on the roads as the five deaths take the Victorian road toll to 210 – one higher than this time last year.
