A CAROLINE Springs landmark has become the latest source of inspiration for budding photographer Angelica Aquino.
The Deer Park photography student, who was inspired to take a snapshot of the unusually giant tap beside Lake Caroline, will showcase the stunning photo at a student photography exhibition this week.
Angelica, 20, said she had always loved being creative, but hadn’t considered pursuing a career in the photography industry until two years ago.
“After I finished Year 12, I did financial services at RMIT. I realised that it wasn’t my thing, I didn’t like it, and I wasn’t happy with it,” Angelica said.
“I was pushed into studying it because of job security and money, but I knew I always wanted to work with art and media.”
That’s when she decided to join the Photographic Imaging College in Melbourne to improve her skills and learn more about the competitive industry.
“I started playing around with photography last year, and I have explored different types of photography, like architecture and fashion, but I love food photography and enjoy it more than the other ones because of the colours and natural lighting you can use,” she said.
“I’d like to learn other types of photography, and I don’t want to stick with just one because it will limit what I can do.”
Angelica said she was excited to show off her latest work at the exhibition, but knew it meant her images would be open to public criticism.
“You can get a bit nervous, but if you’re happy with what you do, then it shouldn’t really matter what other people think about your work,” she said.
The annual Photographic Imaging College student exhibition runs from 31 October to 11 November.
