TWO new trikes at Green Gully Traffic Safety Centre will give adults with autism a chance to learn more about road safety.
Members of the Brimbank Central Rotary Club were delighted to present Green Gully Traffic Safety Centre with two new tricycles last week, which will allow disabled and autistic adults to hop on a bike, have some fun and learn about Victorian road rules.
Green Gully Traffic Safety Centre manager Helen Weir, who has worked at the centre for more than 18 years, said regular visitors from autistic schools nearby were excited to give the new bikes a spin.
“They were all out there. All the ones that can ride were on the tricycles. I was excited as they were, because it was good that they were not just standing around,” Ms Weir said.
Adults and children visit the traffic safety centre to learn essential road safety skills in a safe and controlled environment.
“It gives the parents a break and they don’t have to be looking after their child all the time. Parents don’t have to worry so much about it,” Ms Weir said.
“It’s outside, it’s physical activity and it’s fun. It’s a family affair, families come here and they have a really good time, parents get to relax a bit and they have fun watching the kids ride around.”
