A MAN was stabbed at a Sunshine bus stop last week, after allegedly intervening in a fight.
Brimbank CIU Senior Sergeant Fred Grove said the man was stabbed on 4 March at around 9.30pm, at a Dickson St bus shelter located in front of Sunshine Railway Station.
“An Altona Meadows resident, aged 35, was at the station in the company of his female partner and at this particular point in time he apparently observed two males having an altercation with a female and he’s decided to go in and break-up the fight,” Sen Sgt Grove said.
“He’s attempted to do that but at some stage decided to walk away, and been stabbed in the back – possibly with a broken bottle, or a knife.”
“He’s received a laceration in the back from the weapon and made his way to an address in Altona Meadows, where he has sought help from an ambulance.
“It’s believed the fight was between a female in her early 20’s in a white hat with blonde hair in a pony-tail.
“She was allegedly involved in an altercation with a male described in his early 40’s, wearing something similar to an army-type jacket and walking with a bit of a limp.”
There was no description provided of the third male allegedly involved in the fight.
The stabbing victim allegedly refused to co-operate with police after the incident.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said on the same night as the stabbing, Protective Services Officers (PSOs) working at Sunshine Railway Station responded to a report of 10 males brawling near the Dickson St bus stop.
“This report included the fact that someone had been glassed at that location,” the police spokesperson said.
“The PSOs attended at the scene and observed no brawl in progress however there were a number of persons rapidly leaving the area.
“Police units attended at the scene and patrolled the area for possible witnesses, victims and offenders.”
The PSOs spoke to two men who said they had witnessed a female armed with a Stanley knife near the bus-stop, but she had left the area.
