TEENAGER Daniel has muscular dystrophy and requires a wheelchair to help him move around, but the young Keilor Park resident always has a smile on his face.
A group of businesses and entertainers have come together to stage a fundraising entertainment event on 21 April for Daniel.
The show aims to raise money so his parents Rob and Sue Daniel can make modifications to their home – such as wider doors and hoists, which will help Daniel move around in his wheel chair .
Daniel’s parents also need around $60,000 to purchase a car with a ramp to aid his transportation.
“We rely on maxi-taxis with hydraulic lifts to get around,” Mrs David said.
Daniel, who attends Catholic Regional College in North Keilor, said he was surprised people had decided to hold a fundraising event in his honour.
The 13-year-old said since he was diagnosed with muscular dystrophy five years ago, he relied on his parents to help him move about.
However Mrs David said Daniel maintains a positive attitude to his illness.
“Sometimes I say, ‘Dan should I worry about you?’ and he says, ‘Why? I’m not worried’,” Mrs Daniel said.
Family friend and Kurunjang resident Simon Tabone is helping with the fundraiser’s bookings and promotion.
He said the event has been organised with the aid of well-known comedian and Jerry Lewis impersonator Tony Lewis, who saw the event mentioned on Facebook by the Taylors Lakes Lion Club.
“He organised the entertainers, production, reception and a designer who designed the posters – they are all donating their time,” Mr Tabone said.
JPL Technologies in Keilor Park have printed posters for the show, family friends DJ Pabs and Claude volunteered for the event and the Ultima Function Centre has donated their venue.
‘A day for Daniel’ will be on 21 April from 4-9pm at the Ultima Function Centre, corner Keilor Park Dve and Ely Court in Keilor at a cost of $30 per person.
