Council crackdown on industry offences

BRIMBANK City Council officers will be conducting compliance checks at the Slater Parade Industrial Estate in Keilor East during the rest of March.
Council inspectors will issue land owners and occupiers with a letter of non-compliance for offences including land being used without a planning permit, illegal storage in areas designated for car parking and landscaping, signs displayed without proper planning approval, inadequate line-marking and rubbish being left on sites.
Once businesses receive a non-compliance letter from the council, they have 14 days to remedy the situation.
If they take no action, then the council will immediately issue infringement fines.
The council said both land owners and occupiers would be liable for any permit breaches.
“Council is keen to maintain the appearance and standard of the area which allows for commercial development and for businesses to prosper,” a Brimbank City Council statement said.
