MORE than 520 glass panels in Brimbank bus stops were vandalised throughout last year.
A Public Transport Victoria (PTV) spokesperson told Star that 522 bus shelter glass panels had to be replaced in the Brimbank municipality due to vandalism, during 2012.
PTV has a contract with company Adshel to manage and maintain nearly 3200 bus shelters across 21 municipalities in Melbourne.
“Damaged bus shelters should be reported to the Adshel hotline on 1800 501 402, and Adshel will endeavour to clean up broken glass within a few hours and replace glass panels within two days,” the PTV spokesperson said.
“Bus shelters provide passengers with protection from wind and rain, as well as seating, and vandalism can impact their use.
“Vandalism of any transport infrastructure is a serious concern and we encourage the community to report antisocial behaviour to the police.”
On Easter Monday, a Sunshine bus shelter in Forrest St, near Anderson St, had a missing glass panel.
Another panel had been smashed and the stop was covered in graffiti.
The bus stop – which runs services Brighton beach and Sunshine Train Station – is owned and maintained by Brimbank City Council.
