TWO Brimbank men have been arrested and charged with more than 500 offences relating to an alleged car theft racket.
Last Tuesday, police officers from Taskforce Rio executed three warrants in relation to the alleged vehicle-stealing operation.
The police searched premises in Albert Crescent, St Albans, Sherrington Grange, Derrimut and Thistle Court, Delahey.
Investigators arrested three men, a 21-year-old from St Albans, a 32-year-old from Derrimut and a 53-year-old from Delahey.
The men from St Albans and Derrimut have been charged with more than 500 offences.
Their charges include theft of motor vehicles, obtaining property by deception, making and using false document, possessing property which is allegedly the proceeds of crime and handling stolen goods.
The pair were remanded overnight and appeared in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday.
The Delahey man has been interviewed and released pending further enquiries.
Investigators are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed a bright orange-coloured tow truck removing vehicles from train stations and the side of the road in the western suburbs between May 2011 and October 2012.
