A ROCKBANK man has had his mother’s car impounded for 30 days after a craving for a hotdog got the better of him.
The 35-year-old offender told police he decided to drive to a local store, despite being disqualified, because he had a hankering for the tasty snack.
Melton Highway Patrol impounded the Ford sedan after it was revealed the male already had a prior conviction for driving while disqualified. He was also arrested and interviewed by a local task force in relation to other matters.
He will be charged on summons to attend Bacchus Marsh Court at a later date.
Meanwhile, a 19-year-old male from Melton West had his Mitsubishi Lancer impounded for 30 days after he was intercepted on Melton Highway, Sydenham, in late April. The male had a suspended licence and numerous prior convictions for driving while suspended. He will be charged on summons to attend Bacchus Marsh Magistrates’ Court.
Police impounded another car in the same week when a 38-year-old male from South Australia was clocked at 125km/h in a 110km/h zone on the Western Freeway, Melton.
The male was wanted on outstanding warrants and for an interview in relation to a number of other matters and stated a false name to police.
After his correct identity was established the male was arrested and conveyed to Melton Police Station where he was interviewed regarding a number of theft and family violence matters, charged with the traffic matters and remanded in custody before appearing at Sunshine Magistrates’ Court.
The offender pleaded guilty to all outstanding matters and was sentenced to five months imprisonment, effective immediately, as well as being fined $400 for stating a false name. He will be charged at a later date with further theft and family violence matters.
