EMMAUS Catholic Primary School is celebrating a year to remember on the sporting field.
The school had two of its girls’ inter-school sport teams come within a whisker of claiming state titles in basketball and soccer.
Both teams progressed through district, divisional, regional and conference rounds of competition before making it to state level.
The basketball team competed at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre, coming in third on goal difference after a closely contested final round robin event.
The soccer team won a bronze medal play-off in Thornbury to make it back-to-back third placed finishes for the school in one of its most successful sporting years ever.
Inter school sport co-ordinator Carmela Marinaro said the school was rapt with the effort of the two girls’ teams.
“Our principal and parents went to the games to cheer them on and everyone was wonderful,” she said.
“The teams trained once a week and they competed once a week, and for the teams that made it through, further on they continued training.”
With this batch of players now preparing for high school the next group of stars at Emmaus will be aiming to live up to the same high standard.
