TWO men have been charged with eight counts of rape, aggravated burglary, false imprisonment, threats to kill and theft after allegedly committing an armed burglary at a Sunshine West home last Thursday.
Andrew John Morris, 48, and Matthew Ernest Brooke, 38, appeared before an out-of-sessions court hearing last Thursday night.
They were remanded to appear in the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court last Friday in relation to an armed burglary that occurred about 4.40am last Thursday in Sunshine West.
Acting Superintendent Bernie Jackson said two females, related to each other, were in the house at the time of the incident.
He also reassured Brimbank residents they are safe in their homes.
“Just as a result of an incident overnight, Victoria Police and Brimbank Police Service Area officers would just like to reassure the community this is a one-off incident and police initiative and professionalism shown on this occasion led to two males being arrested,” Acting Supt Jackson said.
“The main theme is that it was a one-off, and we want to reassure everyone there are no issues in the Brimbank area, and it’s just a reminder to keep premises locked, don’t leave windows open and things like that.
“If someone knocks on your door and you don’t know who they are or are worried about your safety, contact police.”
