MORE than 25 firefighters attended a large blaze at a Sunshine North scrap metal yard on Monday 17 June.
Crews were called to the incident just after 9am as large plumes of smoke drifted across the western suburbs.
The fire began at a scrap metal yard and was fuelled by old tyres and automotive parts.
Eight appliances and 27 firefighters from the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) kept the fire contained to the yard.
They prevented the blaze from spreading to neighbouring properties.
The MFB issued a community safety warning advising about smoke in the area and urged people to contact medical services if they felt affected by the clouds of vapour.
The fire was brought under control in 45 minutes. The Environment Protection Authority and WorkSafe are investigating the fire.
