YOUNG East Keilor resident Nikolas has taken his first steps towards a career as a professional actor.
The eight-and-a-half-year-old recently took part in a shoot for a short film called ‘Side effect’.
The short movie is being made by teenagers Elias Anton and Liam Mollic – who attend Adam Turnbull Acting (ATA) classes in Hoppers Crossing – to enter in a youth film festival.
In the film, Nikolas played the part of a son, whose father tells him about their family history.
Nikolas has been studying acting with ATA in Maidstone for the past 18 months.
“When I went to acting class, Adam asked if I wanted to be in a short film and I said, ‘Yes, yes, yes’. I was very excited,” Nikolas said.
“The director told me what to do. They said I was really good at acting.”
Mr Turnbull, a professional actor, said Nikolas was, “a real character in class who makes me laugh all the time”.
Nikolas said he hoped to become a film and television performer when he grows up – and said his dream role would be to play comic-book hero Wolverine.
“Acting is really fun. I see lots of movies and the characters are good at their roles,” he said.
“One of my favourite actors is Hugh Jackman.”
Nikolas said he was quite shy before taking up ATA acting classes, but now feels more confident in front of people.
“Because when I was there in the first term and we did a play over and over and over again, I got the hang of it,” he said.
As a Grade 2 student at Keilor Heights Primary School, Nikolas will soon appear in the school production of Jack and the Beanstalk.
