IT WAS a case of flower power when young Tamara showed off some blooming blossoms last week. The 11-year-old was happy to branch out in a new direction with her lovely floral head-dress to promote the importance of having a green thumb. A free community planting day is coming up at Kororoit Creek on Saturday 20 July, from 10am, at 749 Ballarat Rd in Ardeer. The Brimbank City Council event will help create a habitat for native birds and animals along the waterway by planting shrubs such as sweet sursaria, gold-dust wattle and sticky boobialla. The council has advised families to bring along gardening gloves, a water bottle, a hat and sunscreen, and wear sturdy shoes, long trousers and long-sleeved top.
