Allison Gatt always has a smile on her face whenever she walks into the St Albans Leisure Centre to start work.
The young Brimbank City Council employee has been recognised as star performer at the Aquatics and Recreation Victoria Awards.
Allison, 19, was recognised as the Customer Service Officer of the Year.
She has worked at the leisure centre since 2011, and in addition to her customer service duties, helps out with administration, as a lifeguard and works at the kiosk in summer.
“I was very shocked, but so delighted when I won the award.” Allison said.
“However, it has made me glad that I’m working at such a great centre and that all the hard work I’ve put in had paid off.
The St Albans Leisure Centre facility manager Craig Elvish described Ally as a “star performer”.
“I enjoy speaking to all the patrons at the centre, whether they’re new clients or long-term members,” Allison said.
“I definitely enjoy all of the employees at this centre too.
“Everyone is just so bubbly that it makes the environment a positive area to work in.
“I can definitely say that I’ve never walked into a workplace with a smile on my face every single day that I go in.
“This job is amazing and although it can be tiring at times, I couldn’t complain.
“It’s definitely because of the patrons and work mates.”
Allison said she hoped to gain a full-time position as primary school teacher when she finished university.
“I definitely believe that the centre has given me valuable experience,” she said.
“I’ve been able to advance in my customer service skills, build confidence and rapport with clients and learn many new methods when it comes to conflict resolution.”
