Police seeking letter writer

By ALESHA CAPONE

AN ANONYMOUS letter writer could know important information about an alleged brawl at a St Albans soccer match, according to police.
Police have called for whoever wrote the letter, which was posted to the Keilor Downs Police Station on 18 July, to come forward.
Police have been investigating the alleged soccer fight – involving at least 60 people – which occurred at a Larissa Rd oval on 29 June.
Officers who witnessed the alleged affray said they believed players, officials and spectators were involved.
The alleged fight broke out after a Victoria State League Division Three game between the North Sunshine Eagles and Sporting Whittlesea.
When police arrived at the soccer oval, many of the alleged brawlers fled the scene.
An 18-year-old man, his 54-year-old father and a spectator were injured during the alleged clash.
They later required medical attention for their injuries.
Police said they believed the letter-writer could know “key information” about the alleged brawl.
Investigators have said they would also like to speak to a person who was filming the match with a video camera, set up on a tripod, from the back of a ute.
Police said they had received numerous calls to Crime Stoppers about the incident and had spoken to a number of people, but had not laid charges at this stage.
Police said they still wished to speak to anyone who had information about the alleged brawl or who might know the identity of anyone involved.
Anyone with information can contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
