A WHOLE lot of heart, fun and team spirit was displayed at Albanvale Primary School’s first soccer clinic last week.
Grade Prep teacher Michelle Burke thought it would be a great idea to introduce the children to a different sport clinic this year, as well as the usual AFL clinic.
Melbourne Heart Football Club Game Development officers Josh Bondin and Louisa Bisby spent a day with Prep to Grade 6 children teaching them soccer skills and playing matches.
Ms Burke said the students showed great sportsmanship throughout the day and co-operated well.
“They loved it because all the kids love to play soccer more than football,” Ms Burke said.
“They had a ball playing together and learning about soccer skills and how to interact with others and how to play appropriately,” she said.
Ms Burke said it would be great if the children had more sports equipment to play with.
She said each classroom had a bucket with one soccer ball, one football, one basketball and students took turns borrowing the balls at lunch times.
“They have limited sports equipment,” Ms Burke said.
“The more often they can get out and play is important,” she said.
“The things they were doing with the ball were just fantastic.”
“They were juggling with their feet, just the skill and concentration and just seeing how one little thing makes such a difference.”
Ms Burke said sponsors were needed to buy more sports equipment, including more soccer balls, for the school.
