SPOTSWOOD is into the Western Region Football League division one grand final after a come from behind win against Deer Park.
The Woodsmen trailed at the end of every term before a final quarter revival sparked an impressive comeback.
Down by 16 points at three-quarter time, Spotswood kicked six goals to one to seal the impressive 15-point win.
While the Woodsmen rejoiced, the Deer Park players were left to wonder what could have been, with the Lions failing to cash in on a number of opportunities in the match.
As well as leading on the scoreboard for the majority of play, the Lions also had five more scoring shots in the 11.16 (82) to 15.7 (97) loss.
There was an even spread of contributors for Spotswood with Justin Dorward named best on ground while Lachlan McGhie, Tom Langlands and Michael Fogarty were also impressive.
Up forward, Chris O’Keefe finished with four goals. He was well supported by Mahmoud El-Hawli and Jason Cloke who kicked three and two respectively.
For Deer Park, Luke Guerra was named the Lions’ best with Shannon Broadbent also working hard in the tough conditions.
Deer Park is now faced with the prospect of a do-or-die preliminary final against Sunshine this week.
The winner will progress to the grand final to take on Spotswood.
The Woodsmen will enjoy a week off for their troubles.
Sunshine played Deer Park twice during the home and away season, with both sides each getting a win.
In WRFL division two results, Parkside will face Glen Orden in the grand final after an impressive win over Manor Lakes.
The grand final will be played at Chirnside Park on Sunday.
