A JUSTICE league of generous gentleman and ladies are volunteering their time to help residents across the West.
President of Melbourne’s Western District Honorary Justices (MWDHJ), Emmanuel Tanti, said the group started this year.
Members offer their services to witness and certify documents free of charge at in Sydenham, Sunshine, Derrimut and Caroline Springs every week.
“From a young age, I have always liked to help people and I have always said to myself that when I retire, I will do something to help the community,” Mr Tanti said.
The MWDHJ group helps with statutory declarations and affidavits.
They also assist with preparing application forms for Keypass IDs, Senior Citizen cards, divorce kits, national police checks, Australian federal police checks, First Home Owners Grants and name changes.
In addition, the JPs can process and revoke enduring powers of attorney for guardianship, finance or medical reasons and help prepare forms to obtain birth certificate copies.
Mr Tanti said people have come to the MWDHJ from as far away as Brunswick, Gisborne and Footscray.
“People born overseas come to me every year and ask me to sign a declaration for their country to prove that they are still alive,” he said.
Mr Tanti said MWDHJ were looking for other Justices of the Peace who could join the association by volunteering four hours a week.
The group presently operates at the Sydenham Neighbourhood House in Taylors Lakes every Monday and Tuesday from 10am-2pm and Wednesday from 10am-4pm.
They also operate at the Sunshine Library every Monday, Wednesday Thursday and Friday from 10am-2pm and every Tuesday from 1-8pm; Derrimut Community Centre every Wednesday from 10am-2pm and Springside Community Centre in Caroline Springs on Thursday and Friday from 10am-2pm.
