AN extra $2.5 million will be granted to Brimbank City Council to fund a performing arts space at the new Errington Community Centre.
Council has received a commitment for an additional $2.5million funding towards the development of a new community centre at Errington, for which council has already committed $3.7 million towards.
The additional funding was a commitment made from the St Albans Community Centre Cooperative Ltd (SACCC), which is trustee for money dedicated for the benefit of St Albans residents.
Chair of Brimbank Administrators John Watson said the SACCC funding contribution was an extremely positive outcome for St Albans and Brimbank.
“The SACCC contribution will enable council to deliver a new community centre at Errington that offers even more than was first envisaged,” Mr Watson said.
“The facility will not only cater to existing community needs, but also promote new opportunities.,” he said.
“The performing arts space is particularly exciting, and we hope to see the community really take advantage of this part of the development.”
President of SACCC Jack Sheridan said the SACCC was meeting the needs of the community.
“We’re pleased and proud that SACCC could contribute towards a project that will truly benefit St Albans residents,” Mr Sheridan said.
“And we’re pleased that the SACCC contribution will help incorporate a multipurpose performing arts space that will seat 200 people, and support the vibrancy and creativity of St Albans.”
The total funding for the new community centre with the SACCC funding was $6.2 million
The amount also included a $500,000 Community Support Grant from the State Government.
Construction of the centre is expected to be completed by early 2016.
