A drag at Calder

THOUSANDS of motorsports enthusiasts are expected at Calder Park on Saturday 19 October when championship-level racing returns to the venue.
A round in the Australian National Drag Racing Association (ANDRA) series will be on at the park when hosts Fuchs Nitro Thunder are presented by Crow Cams.
Top Fuel dragsters, Top Bikes and Pro Stock Motorcycles will be among the categories competing on the day.
ANDRA CEO Malcolm Bulley said it would be the first time a round of the association’s championship drag racing had been held in Melbourne since 2001.
“Melbourne has been without top flight drag racing for too long, and this return is going to be massive for both the motorsports community and the local economy,” he said.
“For people who have never seen Top Fuel dragsters, this is their chance.
“They make 8000 horsepower and accelerate to 500km per hour in just five seconds, it is really something you need to see to believe.”
More events have been scheduled in the ANDRA Drag Racing Series calendar for Calder Park in March and December next year.
As well as Fuchs Nitro Thunder, ‘street meets’ are set to return to Calder Park during summer to provide a safe and legal way for people to enjoy their cars.
The ANDRA event will be on from 9am-5pm. Tickets will be available at the gate. General admission $35, concession and children aged13-16 $20, children 12 and under free.
