KEILOR coach Mick Andreadis is not too fazed about his Blues’ poor start to the Victorian Turf Cricket Association Senior Division season.
Following up from its season opening home loss to Bentleigh, Keilor hit the road to take on Hoppers Crossing but couldn’t make amends for a disappointing day one of play, losing the match outright on Saturday.
Having already given up first innings points seven days earlier, the Blues failed to get through the Hoppers Crossing order when play resumed on Saturday, with the Cats declaring their innings at 8/213, 98 runs ahead of the Blues.
Keilor then crumbled with the bat as all but skipper Jody Hutchinson (53) fell cheaply.
The Blues could only muster 119 in 41 overs, setting the host a measly 22 for victory, which was successfully chased down for no loss in five overs.
Andreadis told Star on Sunday he wasn’t disappointed with his undermanned side, citing its lack of experience.
“It’s not all doom and gloom,” Andreadis said.
“We’ve had seven debutants in the first two games and all of them ranging from 14 to about 19-years-old, so we’ve got to do the tough yards.
“We’ve had a lot of players unavailable and a lot of them have been our better players.
“It’s not the end of the world.”
The winless Blues will this weekend hit the road once more to face an undefeated South Caulfield outfit.
But with Andreadis not expecting to have his best squad available for another few weeks, the priority, for now at least, will be pumping some more Senior Division experience into his youngsters.
“We’ll get some better players at our disposal soon and also some of the younger guys will get a few more games under their belt,” Andreadis said.
“We play South Caulfield this week and they’re a good side, so it’s going to be a tough game.
“I reckon in maybe two or three games we should start to be more competitive with a more settled side.”
