IN THE American Lingerie Football League, women wearing helmets, padding and underwear play gridiron.
The game has now touched down with its very own Aussie version.
The Legends Football League (LFL) will be screened exclusively on 7mate.
Keilor resident Chelsea Clingin plays with the Victoria Maidens. Their first game will be against the WA Angels at AAMI Park on 14 December.
Ms Clingin said the match would be “a big sporting moment in Australian history”.
“We have a great group of focused and passionate players and coaches,” Ms Clingin said.
“The sport alone is physically challenging so you have to be at your best constantly.
“We have a lot of fun off the field but come time to play and train, it’s all systems go with a lot of encouragement.”
After successfully trying out for the Maidens in October, Ms Clingin achieved a life-long dream.
“I have always been physically fit and enjoy being active, and having the opportunity to play this sport has always been a dream of mine,” she said.
“You make sacrifices to play and train as it does take up a lot of your time but it would be the same for most people who play sports competitively.”
“I would like to win the cup and the end of the season.”
Although the LFL already has many Australian fans, the game does have its critics.
Former Australian Sports Minister Kate Lundy labelled the LFL “a spectacle that degrades women and threatens to undermine the progress of women in sport in Australia”.
However Ms Clingin said this negativity could come “with any sport unfortunately”.
“Everybody can have their own opinion but we love what we do and will continue to play LFL,” she said.
“We will focus on the fans and not let the negative comments affect us.”
