CHILDREN and young people have been invited to take part in this year’s Summer Reading Club at Brimbank libraries during the school holidays.
The theme for this year’s event will be investigation and will focus on the use of clues and data collection, developing skills of observation, deduction, decoding and formulating conclusions when solving mysteries.
The program is open for youths aged between five and 16 years old.
The Summer Reading Club is the library’s most popular program with more than 1000 children registering for the program last year.
Once registered, children will be awarded small prizes for encouragement such as stickers, bookmarks, pencils and wristbands.
For every five books they read they are able to place one entry in the draw for a major prize.
The Summer Reading Club is an annual national program which encourages children to read over the summer holidays to maintain and improve literacy.
The Brimbank Summer Reading Club will open this week and close on Friday 31 January.
Children can register at any of Brimbank’s five libraries to join the club and receive a reading record and activity kit.
