A LONG-SERVING politician who has represented eight Brimbank suburbs in state parliament will stand for a different area in next year’s Victorian election.
MP Telmo Languiller presently holds the seat of Derrimut which includes Albion, Ardeer, Derrimut, Sunshine North and Sunshine West and parts of Deer Park, St Albans and Sunshine.
However, the Electoral Boundaries Commission earlier this year deleted the seat of Derrimut and replaced it with the new areas named St Albans and Sydenham, after reviewing Victoria’s electorates.
The redrawn boundaries will come into operation at the November 2014 State Election, including the new seat of Tarneit, including Truganina, Williams Landing, Laverton North and Hoppers Crossing.
Mr Languiller has announced he will stand for Tarneit in the 2014 elections.
“It has been my privilege to act as parliamentary representative for the residents of the Derrimut electorate and previously Sunshine electorate since 1999,” Mr Languiller said.
“Given the boundary changes and in consultation with my Australian Labor Party colleagues, I have decided to nominate in the newly created seat of Tarneit.”
“It has been particularly satisfying to contribute in my parliamentary role in the important field of disabilities, aged care and multicultural affairs among others.
“These are issues of social justice which I am very passionate about and which I will continue to champion.”
Mr Languiller said he and other MPs from the West would continue to advocate for the removal of 50 of Victoria’s worst rail crossings, including two in St Albans, if Labor wins next year’s election.
