THERE is no weight too heavy for Karl Lanciano.
The Taylors Lakes resident has established himself as a rising star of the Australian power lifting scene.
Originally from a bodybuilding and kickboxing background, Lanciano crossed over to the sport with immediate results.
“I was always told that I was very strong and I should try a power lifting competition,” he said.
“I went to one of the local IBF power lifting competitions and ended up winning my division and the overall men’s event.
“From there I competed in the Australian Titles and I was in the under 74kg division class. I ended up placing second in that division.”
Based on his outstanding results, Lanciano will compete at the Oceanic Commonwealth Power Lifting Titles this month.
The Championships will take place in Auckland, New Zealand and Lanciano will compete in the Under 66kg Junior Men’s Division.
The 23-year-old is entering the tournament with some lofty expectations.
“Currently I have the Australia deadlift record at 227.5 kilos,” he explained.
“I am going to try and get a junior world record which would be 240 kilos.”
