YOUNG Kathleene is a high achiever no matter whether she is swimming laps or solving sums.
The 12-year-old Burnside Heights resident has won the Caltex All Rounder Award at Catholic Regional College in St Albans.
The award acknowledges students for their all-round contribution to the school and the community.
Kathleene, in Year 7, has been involved a school liturgy team, represented her house and the school in cross country, swimming and athletics and served on the Year 7 Level Council.
She also represented the school at La Trobe University’s Tournament of Minds and a Maths Games Day.
Kathleene said she was “really shocked” to win the Caltex All Rounder Award but has enjoyed being involved in so many different activities.
“It’s just getting to know new people and getting a new experience,” she said.
Kathleene also came second in a school contest to see which pupil could read the most books.
She read around 160 books for the competition in an effort which helped her class secure the college Reader’s Cup.
In addition to her literary leanings, Kathleene is a member of the Brimbank Swimming Club and keen runner.
“It’s just so much fun. Like swimming, there are just so many different things you can do,” she said.
Her duties at CRC have included showing visiting Year 5 pupils around the school and giving them advice about starting secondary college.
“They said: ‘Is it scary?’ And I said: ‘It’s not scary because there are a lot of teachers to help you’,” she said.
