ST Albans Sports Club is proud to host the 2014 St Albans Gift for the fifth consecutive year to be held at the Kings Park Reserve.
Sponsored by the Brimbank City Council and the St Albans Sports Club, it is a free Victorian Athletics League event.
This year’s celebrity runner is Melissa Breen current women’s Australian champion. She represented Australia at the London Olympic Games competing in the 100m and relay events.
Melissa will also be undertaking a junior’s Athletics clinic at this year’s St Albans Gift prior to the event commencing. There will also be little Athletics competition included in this year’s meeting as an addition to the previous.
Organisers anticipate an exceptional turnout as for the first year; there will be no Keilor Gift held for 2014.
The St Albans Sports Club Gift is on Saturday 18 January runs from 3.30pm to 10pm and has drawn record entries with just on 600 entries for a variety of races ranging from 70 metres to 1600 metres.
Following last year’s successful carnival where Australian Champion Josh Ross went on to win the Gift, Melissa will coach the juniors and run in both the women’s and open Gift against the men.
Also entered is Olympian Brendan Cole from Canberra who will compete in the 120 metres event. The main event has attracted 72 entrants and the heats of this will commence at 6.30pm.
The St Albans Sports Club provides a complete entertainment package with a family bistro, bar, TAB, Club Keno and pokies area. It also provides sports training and playing facilities, equipment and educational support for local schools and sporting clubs, primarily the St Albans Football & Cricket Clubs, the Saints Angling Club and the Hookers & Slicers Golf Club.
The club has also invested in two mini buses which are utilised by guests and local school who do not have their own transport. The club is a free community service and central for all to access. It offers dining, entertainment, sporting events and more.
The club also supports local charities and schools with equipment, transport assistance and volunteers for sports programs.
Established in 1984, St Albans Sports Club remains a non-profit organisation. All profits go back to the club and the community for better facilities for everyone to enjoy.
