MORE than 20 countries will be represented in this year’s Brimbank Cup which will take place between 14 to 16 February at the Cairnlea Soccer Club. The event, featuring exhibition games with the Victoria Police Soccer Club versus the World 11 Team, will be presented by Brimbank City Council, Victoria Police and Football Federation Victoria. Last week a team of asylum seekers who will be playing in the contest gathered at Skinner Reserve in Braybrook to be presented with boots donated by Melbourne Victory. Brimbank Embona Acting Detective Sergeant Matthew Illingworth said the tournament was a great way for police and multicultural communities to communicate. “Sport is a common language and interest for many in the Brimbank community and events such as the Brimbank Soccer Cup provide a great opportunity to bring everyone together,” Acting Det Sgt Illingworth said. The games will begin at 6.30pm on Friday 14 February and residents have been invited to come along and watch the fun.
