ESSENDON Aquatic continues to dominate in the pool. The swimming club, which caters for athletes throughout Melbourne’s western suburbs, enjoyed fantastic results at the Victorian Age State Championships late last year.
Twenty of Essendon Aquatic’s swimmers made finals at the high calibre event.
From that group, the club also claimed two gold medals, two silver medals and three bronze medals.
The impressive performances saw Essendon Aquatic jump from the 22nd ranked club in Victorian up to number 12.
The club is now also ranked number one in the Metro West region for the first time in its history.
Essendon Aquatic coach Chris Briffa was rapt with the results.
“The club has invested a lot into its coaching and programs,” he said.
“Our aim is to be a top 10 club in Victoria.
“These were fantastic individual results and these swimmers are to be commended on their efforts.
“We finished above many of the larger clubs, who have long had our measure.
“This is not a result of a few but a result of many. Swimmers who may not have contributed to the points score were instrumental in many of the victories, cheering their team members on and offering them support outside of the pool. The feeling on pool deck was amazing and the swimmers were united in their goal to see everyone do the best they could.”
The good news didn’t stop there for Essendon Aquatic with Melton resident Adam Benca and West Sunshine resident Lushavel Stickland qualifying for the Australian Aged Championships to be held in Sydney in April.
