A DERRIMUT family will be sporting green to support the youngest members of the community.
The L’il Aussie Prems Foundation encourages everyone to wear something green on ‘Wearing Green For Premmies’ on the second Wednesday in April, a day to raise awareness for babies born prematurely and their families.
Anson Seto, 2, and his parents Davina Fung and Anthony Seto know all too well about the rollercoaster journey of a premature baby.
Ms Fung had no complications with her pregnancy up until Anson was born 28 weeks and two days old, almost 13 weeks early.
“It was a spontaneous labour, I didn’t have any complications with my pregnancy or any injuries,” Ms Fung said.
Anson stayed in hospital for two months all up in the special-care unit and neonatal intensive care units respectively.
Ms Fung said Anson had the usual complications of a premature baby, but also had to have a lumbar puncture done due to bleeding in his brain that could result in brain damage.
“It was very scary times, and it’s still unknown,” she said.
Ms Fung said her son was now doing well despite a delay in his motor skill development.
And with the help from a board of professionals, Anson started to walk just before Christmas and was learning new things rapidly.
“He has great spirit, always a fighter and refuses to give up,” Ms Fung said.
“Both me and my husband are extremely proud of him and continue to be amazed by his achievements every day,” she said.
“We consider ourselves as the lucky ones in the NICU and are grateful of everyone that is involved in the care of our family,” she said.
