A PAIR of hip-hoppers from a Brimbank dance crew is aiming for international success.
Matthew and Jason, who live in Sunshine and Taylors Lakes, formed the Popstars Dance Crew (PDC) in 2010.
They often practice at Victoria University in Footscray, which they both attend.
“From the beginning there’s just been the two of us,” Matthew said.
“I thought Melbourne needed a new dance crew and we have been friends for 18 years.
“Me and Jason work well together.
“We do hip-hop, popping and locking.
“We get to do some dance battles and get some respect from other dancers.”
Matthew said he and Jason hoped to eventually compete at the World Battle, an international competition for dance crews.
“We actually just go to battle and do it on the spur of the moment,” he said.
“Sometimes we get haters and that doesn’t faze us.
“People love us when we battle.
“You need to have a lot of confidence and a lot of passion in what you do.”
Matthew said he looked up to the famous Australian dance crew and band, Justice Crew.
His advice for other young dancers is to rehearse as much as possible.
“I would say if you’re not a dancer or want to be one, just practice, practice, practice and you will grow in confidence,” he said.
